How in the hell did we get here? I’d say my wellness journey truly began when my son was born in December of 2019. I had been a lifelong runner with various marathons and Boston Marathons under my belt, generally healthy and no real concern about my wellness. When my wife and I were at the hospital just hours before our son was born, I recall watching my Kansas City Chiefs play Sunday Night Football against the Chicago Bears and a scroll at the bottom of the screen mentioning a virus in China. I didn’t think a whole lot about it at the time but then fast forward to the following summer of lockdowns, misinformation, and misplaced fear. I had put on a little weight (skinny fat is what I really was) and thought I could simply go outdoors, run 10 miles a day, and it would disappear. Then I had two realizations: 1) the weight wasn’t dropping as my body had become quite efficient at running, and 2) losing weight does not always equal good health. My wife introduced me to a podcast that had quite an effect on me and I had the realization that resistance training, not solely cardio, was my path to health. My flaw here was that I thought I knew what I was doing and could simply “bulk up” and add muscle. The result was putting on more weight, and more specifically, more fat than muscle. Enter Henry Dubois (www.shiftingyears.com) in August of 2020.

After a year of training with Henry, and now presently here in 2024, I can honestly say (drumroll for cliche) I am in the best shape of my life. I lost weight, but more importantly I built muscle, which I believe is one of the main keys to health and longevity. Having parents in their 80s that I watch struggle with balance and mobility (and after assessing myself, “Oh look, me too”) I also have found it necessary to focus on this in addition to building muscle, balancing lifestyle, and prioritizing sleep.

Having worked in the corporate world of healthcare for 23 years I have a passion to help others achieve this balance, optimize health, and increase joy and happiness in their lives.
